Program Overview
TCU's School of Nurse Anesthesia offers two programs for entry to nurse anesthesia practice. The Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia (MSNA) is a 28-month program which begins with a year of coursework which includes pharmacology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and research. The Doctor of Nursing Practice-Anesthesia (DNP-A) is a 36 month program which begins with 20 months of coursework which includes research, biostatistics, decision science, informatics, complexity, innovation, emerging science, health care policy, politics, pharmacology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology.
Both programs conclude with a 16-month clinical residency. Students are placed in hospital settings across the nation for clinical education where they practice under the guidance of clinical faculty, nurse anesthetists, and anesthesiologists.
The Master Science Nurse Anesthesia program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the United States Department of Education (DOE). (COA, 222 South Prospect Ave., Ste. 304, Park Ridge, IL 60068-4010). The DNP-A is pending accreditation by the COA and by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE).
