Human Patient Simulator
In any level of patient care, hands on experience is always considered the best teacher. The School of Nurse Anesthesia believes in this as well. New at the School of Nurse Anesthesia is the Human Patient Simulator(HPS), a computer-model-driven, full-sized mannequin that gives students a true life experience in true-to-life scenarios, that can be changed to the specific goal of the instructor. The HPS blinks, speaks and breathes, has a heartbeat and a pulse, and will accurately respond to procedures performed on humans, such as CPR, intravenous medication, intubation, ventilation, catheterization, and eyes that are light sensitive. Add to this an array of programmed systems, and you have an easily controlled teaching where students can practice as much as needed, until patient care is second nature.
With only a few hundred of these being used in medical schools and nursing programs around the country, this truly sets the School of Nurse Anesthesia at TCU apart from other schools. With trained, clinically experienced faculty, a student who graduates from the School of Nurse Anesthesia, will be prepared for their chosen career path.
