Kay K. Sanders, CRNA, DNP, Director, School of Nurse Anesthesia

 

Dr. Sanders graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Woman's University in 1980 with a BS in Nursing and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in 1984. She received the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from TCU May 2009. Prior to nursing she was a teacher in public and private schools. Her anesthesia experience was primarily in small hospital settings although she has also worked in major metropolitan medical centers.

 

She is a knowledgeable Director for the TCU School of Nurse Anesthesia. She served as the Director for 14 years at another institution where she started a distance education program utilizing video teleconferencing, a human patient simulator lab, and brought on board more than 35 clinical sites for nurse anesthesia students. She teaches pharmacology of anesthetic agents and gives a number of lectures in the principles of anesthesia practice courses.

 

She has served her professional in many roles including: President, Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists; member of American Association of Nurse Anesthetists' Education and Finance committees, and Chair of Nominating committee; Chair Reviewer on assigned accreditation visits for the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and member for many years of the Texas Nurses Association Advanced Practice Committee. She is currently serves on the AANA Practice Committee and the Scope and Standards Task Force.
